Programs & Services: Certification Courses

First Aid - Standard Recertification (Red Cross)

Please check back in October for fall dates for this course as we are currently working on setting them up. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work our way back to regular programming based on health restrictions.

All courses to be held in WB113, DBAC.

With respect to Workplace First Aid training, the WSIB has extended the recertification and certification date so that those with First Aid/CPR certificates that would have expired March 1, 2020 and later are now extended until December 31, 2021.

For more information please see

The Red Cross released the following update on May 10, 2021 regarding general First Aid training.

To accommodate the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the impact on in-person training, we have re-evaluated our position regarding First Aid recertification (participant levels). Participant-level certificate holders with certifications that expire between March 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, can attend a recertification course (if eligible, see note below)  until December 31, 2021. This extended window will allow those with expired certifications the opportunity to recertify as facilities reopen and training resumes.

Please Note: If you completed a one-day recertification course for your previous certification , you must attend a full two-day Standard First Aid course to remain certified. One day recert courses can only be done once before full 2-day certification is required again. Following each full two day certification, only the one day recert is required. All certifications remain in effect for 3 years before expiring.

If you are interested in taking your first aid course independently at an alternate location, please see the Red Cross website at

We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we wish everyone good health and safety at this challenging time. Please contact Heidi O'Brien at if you have any questions.
