Leadership Team, McMaster Sport Fitness School
The Department of Athletics and Recreation provides service to students, employees, alumni, and the greater community with aim to inspire healthy, active lifestyles for all. The Sport Fitness School (SFS) Leadership Team is responsible for the entire SFS program and ensures that all university and department policies are adhered to, that risk management is given thoughtful consideration in every activity, and that we are actively creating staff, camp and sport culture that contribute to our goal of building a healthy and inclusive community through sport.

Administrative Coordinator (1): The Administrative Coordinator becomes and expert in our camp management system (CampBrain), producing camp session reports, making and tracking changes to camper and session information, and acting as a primary liaison between staff, parents, and campers. An effective Administrative Coordinator will be highly organized, able to manage time and prioritize work tasks in a fast-paced environment, have strong computer skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Senior Manager (1-2): The Senior Manager has typically been a member of the Leadership Team in previous summers and works closely with the Camp Director and Camp Coordinator to ensure the effective operation of camp. Responsibilities are considerable in number and scope, including a focus and lead role on inclusion and diversity related training and programming. Senior Manager(s) will be responsible for either operations or program-focused, providing thorough feedback to leadership team members and staff. Portfolio may consist of a combination of: bussing administration, sport programming, sport positioning, counsellor group assignments, off-campus trip coordinator, managing the Staff Support & Development team, Staff hiring and evaluation, camper feedback form coordination, leader-in-training and junior leadership placement management.
Staff Support and Development (5): The SS&D team works to facilitate the constant development of all staff, building staff morale, belief in camp values, and providing frequent, timely and constructive feedback to our coaches and staff team.
Fitness Program Coordinator (1): Coordinate Fit Forum Leaders, Non-Swim Programming, Fun Friday, Trail Run First Aid Response, Manage staff assignments and campers during fitness programming. Support First Aid Coordinator during lunch hour. Support Staff Absences in the afternoon.
Leadership Program Coordinators (1-2): Develop and operate SFS Leader-in-Training & Junior Leadership programs and special event details. Support general camper experience via LIT/JL involvement in camp. Maintain Leader-in-Training & Junior Leadership Manuals and provide outreach opportunities for Leader-in-Training & Junior Leaders. Provide frequent, timely and constructive feedback to our LIT and JLs throughout each session and in the form of a written final observation for each participant.
Marauder 1:1 Program & Behavioural Support Coordinator (1-2): Communicate with parents and campers to understand camper needs and effectively relay information about camp activities and transitions. Coordinate staffing for the shadow support program. Coordinate with Occupational Therapy Students and integrate them into camp programming effectively. Connect with guardians throughout session to update on athlete's progress at camp. Member of the camper resource team and contributes to problem-solving and consultation around camper needs to enhance success. Work with campers and staff to manage behavioural challenges, sometimes providing short-term individual and/or group counselling. Work with Director, Senior Managers and partnering agencies regarding strategic sport-positioning of athletes and coaches. Coordinate general camp lunch and swim staff positions.
- Experiences and passionate with respect to creating a safe, inclusive, enjoyable, and memorable children's sport experience.
- Proven ability of leadership of co-workers, staff, or peer groups.
- Standard First Aid/CPR-C
- Administrative experience is an asset.
- Respected member of the SFS staff in previous seasons, and thorough understanding of the SFS-specific operations is an asset.
