First Aid - Standard (Red Cross)
Courses are not offered in July or August.
Courses from Sept-April are offered only on weekends, while courses in May/June include weekday and weekend courses. (Spring schedule is generally available in March)
Standard First Aid: This is a 2 day comprehensive course that provides training for dealing with life-threatening situations. Hours are 9-5 on both days and 100% attendance is required to pass. Topics covered include all the material in Emergency First Aid (choking treatment, CPR, severe bleeding, shock, etc.) plus poisoning, bone and joint injuries, hypothermia, moving a first aid casualty, and medical conditions such as diabetic crisis, convulsions, heart attack and stroke. CPR "C" and AED certification included. Certification is in effect for 3 years. A First Aid Recertification course can then be taken before expiry, again effective for 3 years. Following the recertification, the Full Standard First Aid course must be taken to remain certified.
All courses to be held in WB113, DBAC. Fees: McMaster Students & DBAC Members: $110 Non-Members: $155 FT Staff/Faculty: $0 (please review criteria below under Staff & Faculty Tab for $0 eligibility)

Registration Instructions: Online registration is not available for this course. Please register at the Recreation Business office at the Joan Buddle Service Desk in DBAC (pay with debit, cash, cheque or credit card) or Print Registration Form , complete thoroughly and email to reconline@mcmaster.ca.. If using the form payment is by Visa, MC or Amex ONLY.
Please note that no refunds, only credits on accounts will be issued for cancellations less than 1 business day prior to the course, and no-shows will be charged. In the case of refunds, a $15 administrative fee will be applied. For registered employees or anyone with a $0 fee, department account numbers will only be charged for no-shows and cancellations less than 1 business day prior to course.

Information for Staff and Faculty
STAFF/FACULTY:Please first verify with your Human Resources advisor if you are eligible for free training, this is not something Athletics and Recreation can determine for you as the cost is covered by HR, not Athletics and Recreation..(Generally speaking all full time Staff and Faculty are eligible.) Employee number, department Chartfield account number,(Fund Code- Account- Department- Program Code) and contact information MUST be included on registration form if you are registering at $0. Departments will only be charged in the case of a 'no-show' or for cancellations less than 1 business day prior to course. (or if a registrant is deemed not eligible for free training by McMaster HR.)
Please be advised: Upon successful completion of this First Aid training, McMaster employees will be expected to assist with minor first aid injuries within the workplace as well as taking charge of and inspecting first aid kits in your area of work. What to Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for performing the skills required for CPR. (kneeling on mats on floor)
