The Department of Athletics and Recreation (a division of Student Affairs) provides students, staff, faculty, alumni and the greater community the opportunity to pursue athletic excellence and recreational activities. The mission of the department is to cultivate human potential and well-being through recreation and sport. The operating units of the department include athletics, recreation and sport medicine.

 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Communications & Marketing Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide support in the planning and execution of digital and new media content for McMaster University’s Athletics & Recreation programs.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to organize and execute creative content needs (including photoshoots, filming, etc.).

  • Assist in the production and editing of photo/video content for internal and external promotional efforts, including but not limited to:

    • Interviews, features, social clips, sports photography, varsity competition highlights, head shots, commercials

  • Store and categorize captured assets using departmental organization methods.

  • Collaborate to maintain a detailed content calendar to produce digital elements in a timely manner, while meeting the overall strategic goals of the department.

  • Develop and maintain event coverage schedules for the purpose of content capturing.

  • Execute select graphic design projects from conceptualization to delivery.

  • Assist in sponsorship activations with focus on graphics/video/digital content.

  • Assist in maintaining department social media accounts for Recreation and Varsity portfolios.

 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a digital media or creative marketing program at a university or college.

  • Minimum 6 months experience in professional photography and/or videography, as well as demonstrated proficiency in video/photo editing programs (Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Working knowledge of professional photography equipment.

  • Ability to meet editing deadlines using video editing programs under the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects).

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Previous experience within a post-secondary sports environment is considered an asset.

Assets

  • Experience directing subjects during shoots to achieve desired outcomes

  • Experience with photography lighting setups

  • Working knowledge of graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator

  • Experience shooting sports photography, indoors and outdoors
