Coach, Sport Fitness School Summer Camp - APPLICATIONS CLOSED

The Department of Athletics & Recreation is seeking caring and enthusiastic Coaches to facilitate our Sport Fitness School (SFS) camp programming.  SFS is a multi-sport program that provides children and youth, ages 6-16, with opportunities in a wide range of sport and fitness related activities.  The camp is designed to influence healthy, active lifestyle choices, positive social interaction and individual development through sport and play.  Experience working with and passion for supporting the development of children are a must!

June 21-August 23, Weekdays @ 8:00am-4:30pm

Salary:

$16.55/hour

Our coaches' primary responsibility is to the safety and well-being of the children under their care, working to ensure they are included and engaged in camp activities. Each day, coaches are responsible for supervising their athletes, leading programming and activities, and empowering children and sharing life lessons throughout. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and leading assigned groups through programming and activities
  • Providing technical knowledge and developmental progressions of sports and activities
  • Empowering children and sharing life lessons through integration of sport planning and role modelling
  • Establishing a safe, inclusive, and positive atmosphere for campers and staff
  • Providing camper feedback both verbal and written
  • Fostering and facilitating healthy group and sport culture
  • Providing basic first aid to injured campers
  • Respond to safety issues in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures, including providing basic first aid
  • Communicating with parents/guardians during arrival and dismissal processes
  • Coaches may be scheduled for additional duties such as Extended Care and/or Bussing duties (7:30am-8:30am; 4:30pm-5:30pm approx.) occassionally throughout July & August depending on staff availability.
  • Passionate about working with children and creating a safe, inclusive, enjoyable, and memorable camp experience
  • Vulnerable Sector Scan completed by early June - must have been obtained within current camp year (2024)
  • Minimum Standard First Aid/CPR C certified by early June
  • Completion of all online training modules by early June.
  • Experience in a youth setting, sport/coaching and/or leadership programs are an asset
  • NCCP/NLS training certifications are an asset
