Superhero Training Academy Coordinator, The Pulse Fitness Centre

The Superhero Training Academy coordinator organizes and implements the Superhero Training Academy program. STA is a fitness program designed specifically for children and youth with special needs. The program focuses on improving fitness fundamentals, such as balance, flexibility, coordination and strength, while also promoting the development of social skills, such as listening to instructions and working co-operatively in groups. In order to achieve these goals, children receive the undivided attention of one or two dedicated McMaster student volunteers.

Summer 2017, Fall Winter 2017-18

Scheduled Hours:

3-10 hours/week

  • Recruitment and training of volunteers.
  • Development, presentation and advertising of the STA Program
  • Organizing and implementing the weekly STA sessions
  • Pairing and scheduling volunteers with STA athletes
  • Attending monthly staff meetings/trainings
  • Maintain current standard First Aid/CPRC.
  • Certifications in personal training and/or fitness instruction [e.g., ACE, Can-Fit-Pro, CPTN, NSCA] is favorable however not required. 
  • Candidates should posess strong leadership and communication skills, and experience working with individuals with special needs.
