Graphic Designer, Athletics & Recreation

McMaster University's Department of Athletics and Recreation is seeking a part-time Graphic Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating visually appealing and effective designs to promote our varsity sports teams and programs. Reporting to the Communications & Marketing Coordinator, the successful graphic designer candidate will support in the planning and execution of digital and new media content for McMaster University's Department of Athletics & Recreation programs.

10/week

  • Create visually appealing and engaging graphics that reflect the brand and messaging of the Department of Athletics & Recreation
  • Collaborate with the communications and marketing team and other unit leads to create assets for recreation programming, fitness classes, game-day promotions, ticket sales, and other marketing initiatives
  • Assist in the production of graphics content for internal and external promotional efforts, including but not limited to:
    • Program and schedule announcements
    • Awards and accolade acknowledgement
    • Varsity sport coverage (game day and post-game score graphics)
    • Guidebook and game program development
  • Store and categorize digital assets using departmental Dropbox account
  • Collaborate to maintain a detailed content calendar to produce digital elements in a timely manner, while meeting the overall strategic goals of the department
  • Meet project deadlines and manage time effectively with limited supervision
  • Execute select graphic design projects for all units of the Department of Athletics & Recreation (Aquatics, Camps, Climbing, Events, Intramural Sports, Marauder Varsity Sports, Outdoor Recreation, Pulse Fitness Centre, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Medicine)
  • Prepare and submit print-ready files to vendors
  • Assist in sponsorship activations with focus on digital graphics content for online and in-stadium applications
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in graphic design and visual communication
  • Assist in managing department social media accounts for both @macrecreation and @mcmastersports on multiple platforms

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a digital media or creative marketing program at a university or college level
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Must be available to work on campus in the David Braley Athletic Centre
  • An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated ability/experience will be considered

Assets

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Understanding of current the latest trends and best practices in graphic design and visual communication
  • A passion for college sports and a strong understanding of the U SPORTS landscape is a plus
  • Experience with Sprout Social content scheduling software

  • Most shifts will be Monday - Friday between the hours of 8 am - 5 pm, however some evening and weekend shifts may be required
  • Must be available to work on campus in the David Braley Athletic Centre
