Health & Safety Coordinator, Children's Camps

The Department of Athletics & Recreation is seeking a caring and experienced First Responder to manage the health and safety of all involved in our summer camp programs. With 600-1,000 campers (ages 5-18) and 175 staff in attendance each day, the job can be demanding, requiring an efficient and compassionate, knowledgeable and experienced caregiver. Experience working with and passion for supporting the development of children are a must!


Job Details

Term:

May 1 – August 25, 2017

Scheduled Hours:

Minimum 10 hours/week from start of May to mid-June with flexible schedule, 35-40 hours/week from mid-June to end of August with fixed daily schedule 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Salary:

$15.00/hour

  • Providing first aid to injured campers and staff and managing their return to activity/work
  • Ensuring parents/guardians and/or supervisors are kept informed of all incidents
  • Detailed daily reporting of all treatment provided in adherence to McMaster policy
  • Developing engaging and informative camp-specific staff training modules
  • Pre-camp review and follow up on camper medical forms
  • Ordering and managing first aid supplies for all camps

Additional opportunity through May and June instructing First Aid/CPR certification classes – must have Current Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification.

Primary responsibility is to camps, with full-time work through late June, July and August in this area. Opportunity for increased hours through May-June exists depending on experience, certifications, etc. of selected applicant.

  • Vulnerable Sector Scan completed prior to work start
  • Minimum Standard First Aid/CPR C certified, First Responder or higher and/or Red Cross Instructor preferred
  • Member of or familiarity with McMaster’s Emergency First Response Team (EFRT) and/or McMaster’s Sport Medicine team an asset
